The truth is the spread running game could be deadly. A couple of years ago I coached at a college that made a run to the Texas high school state championship game. We place the spread in not because we thought we’d dominate from the passing game but because we knew that the team would be a good running team.
I wonder how many really understand all aspects of the offense. When done correctly it may be similar to a complete court run 4 game s in basketball and it is going to gradually wear another team down. The game is an integral part of being a comprehensive offense. Coaches will need to rep running as much or more than the passing game and few understand this.

There are three standard schemes for the crime line to find out within zone, outside zone, and also the counter trey. On some level this may seem simple. Unfortunately all three theories are tremendously different and often offense lines will fight to be good at all three.
At a typical doubles alignment you will find four wide receivers and one running back. The running back is usually put from playside. So for example if your team is running”2-Base” then the rear will be aligned into the quarterback’s left and will crossover and then attack both hole and is always trying to find a cutback lane. The trunk should be thinking bang or bend and has to read on the run. Frequently the hole will grow backside and as result no player should think that they can take a playoff. Many times a back may end up backside and if the inside receiver isn’t performing his job his guy will earn a touchdown saving tackle!
The foundation of the disperse running game is that the zone read. Since the rear crosses across the quarterback’s eyes are on the backside end. In case the end stays slow or preoccupied plays then it is an automatic supply. In this column I will concentrate on the responsibilities of the quarterback and Trainers and I will talk about line play in a subsequent article.
Again repetition is critical. Many quarterbacks will suppose. They must read on the run and respond to what the defense is providing the offense. 23 base is the base running play for its spread offense. The quarterback counter trey works from base and should be learned with 23 base.

Quarterback counter trey will seem like 23 foundation but there’s no read. If the play call was 4 QB counter trey, then the back could align to the ideal cross over and imitation 3 foundation. The quarterback doesn’t have to ride the ball to back, just let him cross. Backside guard and handle will tug. The guard will kick the playside end and the handle will seal on the linebacker. Let me say here that thoughts upward”4” methods are hard to counter because it’s hard to execute a down block.

Among the most frequent errors by the quarterback is going to be for him to try and run wide. I promise this drama will not work if the QB is not disciplined. If 23 base have successful the QB counter will be successful also.
Today 45 counter can be run by the trunk too. The QB can read this like he does 23 base. Often when the buttocks defensive end sees backside linemen pulling he’ll shut and the QB is going to get an opportunity to pull the ball. If a team would like to be prosperous in the disperse running game they must become efficient at the counter. It’s a miss direction play which retains the buttocks honest.

Often inside linebackers will cross vital. Tendencies for many spread teams demonstrate that a vast majority of time in the event the back is away the running drama is coming to you. 1 way to keep them honest is to combine the running back’s alignment. Align the rear playside on counter a few. This takes away the QB’s read but break’s the crossover tendency. But if your group runs counter well this will hurt them keying crossover trends.
The next running scheme is outside zone. There are three outside zone running plays and they involve the wide receiver, running back, and quarterback. Outdoor zone retains defensive ends honest. And equally as inside zone and counter work collectively so can counter and outside zone. Some groups will not widen the end but will use an outside linebacker to split the difference between an inside receiver and the tackle. (This is the place where the bubble is significant ).

Having achievement running outside zone will cause defensive ends to widen which makes them prime targets to be kicked by pulling guards when conducting counter. The toughest kind of outside zone play along with the hardest to time is that the jet sweep.
The QB will start the interior receiver in movement and before he arrives in the QB ball will probably be snapped and handed to him running full rate. Once this drama is perfected it opens up many different possibilities in the racing game and passing game. Offensive linemen will cut backside and extend playside. It is simple for offensive line coaches to over coach this. Teach your linemen to function into the playside arm pit and stay participated! It is a quick play and penetration is about the one thing which may cause problems. Playside recipients play a large part in the achievement of this play.
